Liposuction in Tampa, FL
Sometimes, we all could use a little help as we struggle to look our best. Due to aging, weight and hormone fluctuations, or pregnancy, changes to the body can result in stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.
If you’re struggling to lose those last few pounds, or you are disappointed when you see extra pockets of fat that seem to ruin the beautiful proportions of your body or the fit of your clothes, you might want to consider liposuction.
Can I Combine Liposuction with Other Procedures?
Dr. Halpern can perform liposuction as a standalone procedure or seamlessly combine it with another for a cohesive body contouring result. Some popular combinations include:
Fat Transfer
Liposuction and fat transfer are complementary procedures by definition, as liposuction is actually the first step in the fat transfer process. During this procedure, Dr. Halpern harvests fat via liposuction from one area of the body, purifies it, and then re-injects it into another part of the body that has lost youthful volume.
If you’re interested in slimming one part of your body, such as the abdomen, flanks, or thighs, and would also like to see some youthful plumpness in another, such as the breasts or face, adding fat transfer can truly transform your results and give you a more youthful, pleasing contour.
Renuvion®
This skin-tightening, minimally invasive treatment is highly recommended to most of Dr. Halpern’s liposuction patients, as this procedure can take your results to the next level. When pockets of fat are removed from the body, and its overall volume is reduced, the skin can look stretched and be difficult to snap back into place, detracting from the slimming results of liposuction.
Renuvion® uses a combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat tissues and induce tissue contraction. It is also the only FDA-approved device for use after liposuction, improving upon results for youthful, tightened skin that displays newly slimmed, contoured curves.

What Can I Expect From the Liposuction Procedure?
Each liposuction that Dr. Halpern performs is entirely unique to the needs, goals, and anatomy of his patients. He may use alternative techniques or combine procedures based on your custom surgical plan, but generally, the liposuction procedure is as follows:
Liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be able to return home after surgery. It can be performed using local anesthetic with sedation or general anesthesia. This will also depend on whether you have combined procedures or not.
On the day of surgery, Dr. Halpern will mark the locations where you will receive treatment; these markings will reflect what is detailed in your surgical plan. You will then be placed under anesthesia, and Dr. Halpern will begin the surgery. He will make small incisions around the treatment area, just large enough for a small, thin tube called a cannula to be inserted.
Dr. Halpern will use the cannula to gently and evenly remove unwanted fat from the treatment area. Moving the instrument back and forth, he will create a smooth, appealing contour to sculpt a pleasing aesthetic result. Once he is satisfied with the results, he will close the incisions.
What Is Liposuction Recovery Like?
Liposuction recovery will vary depending on the size and number of treatment areas, whether you have combined procedures or not, and your body’s natural healing process. Immediately following liposuction, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You may also be given a surgical or compression garment, which helps reduce swelling, induces healing, and helps the skin retract.
Most patients can return to work within a few days as long as physical activities are limited. Dr. Halpern will provide you with specific instructions as to how to care for your incisions and any surgical drains, how long to wear your compression garments, and when you can safely resume daily activities.
